Southport Market is back open!
The historic facility, on the corner of King Street and Market Street, now has social distancing signage in place to keep shoppers and market staff safe.
People can trade in the market for as little as £13.50 per day, while exciting new plans are drawn up for the venue’s long-term future.
A spokesperson said: “When you visit us we have implemented a one way system so we can keep you as safe as possible. Please make sure you keep your distance and follow the arrows.”
As a food business, Blackhurst Butchers was allowed to continue trading after the Coronavirus lockdown was imposed in March.
They said: “We have remained open during the last few months and have managed to offer a free home delivery service to loyal and new customers who are self isolating. We are continuing to offer a free home delivery service to local customers who spend over £15.
“If you are in town we would love to see you in Southport Market and show you our fantastic display and what we have to offer.
“Thank you all for your continued support over the last few months and your fantastic 5 star reviews.”

Blackhurst’s are delighted to be back amongst company again as the easing of the lockdown rules this week means that they are now able to be joined by the returning: Habiknit haberdashery stall, Bernadette’s hair and cosmetics and Lindy’s Bags, all of who have been trading at the market for a number of years.
They are joined by John’s Ladies Fashion, a pop-up stall which has been trading at the market for the past few months and which has now returned post Covid closure.
Southport Market manager Denise Ryder said: “Trading in the market is easier than ever. You can trade in the market in a stall from £13.50 per day, you do not need a deposit and you do not need to sign up to a contract.
“We have had quite a few enquiries and have a new trader joining us at the end of the month and we are in talks with more. Any traders interested in joining us can contact me on my mobile 07816855308.
“We continue to trade as normal while we continue to refine our plans for the future.”

Sefton Council is currently looking at plans to convert the landmark facility from a classic market format into a food and drink market with event space.
Drawing inspiration from the European culture of social eating, embracing local produce and fresh ingredients, the aim is to see Southport Market evolve into the type of market culture that has been successfully established throughout the UK as a social hub in places like Altrincham.
