Sarah and Ricky Blaney from The Stamford guest house in Southport will star in the Four in a Bed TV series on Channel 4

The owners of an award-winning Southport guest house which starred in a popular TV series are celebrating being able to reopen it fully this week.

Sarah and Ricky Blaney were proud to showcase The Stamford over five consecutive nights on Channel 4 programme Four In A Bed in March. Over the course of the week they enjoyed competing with a glamping site in Derbyshire and two pubs in North Yorkshire.

Sarah and Ricky were great hosts, taking the other contestants to enjoy an afternoon of fun at Southport Footgolf; dinner at The Firepit restaurant on West Street; and breakfast at Bistrot Pierre on Lord Street.

The Stamford was praised for its superb location at the heart of Southport town centre, its comfy beds and tastefully decorated rooms, and the convenience of its self check-in facilities.

The venue was awarded runner-up in the B&B / Guest House of the Year category in the last Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.

Four In A Bed was watched by millions of viewers when it was aired. But because of the long months of Covid lockdown, people have not been able to visit and enjoy The Stamford fully – until now. The venue’s self-service accommodation has been open since 12th April but the full reopening can now take place from today ( Monday, 17th May).

Sarah Blaney said: “We have been closed more than we have been open over the last year!

“We had to close from the first lockdown in March 2020 and then reopen from 4th July until September, when the Tier 3 system came in.

“We are really pleased to be back open again.

“The end of this month, with May bank holiday coming up, is looking really good.

“Southport is going to be buzzing!

“All the hoteliers in town are ramping up their preparations ready for reopening.

“It has been slow and steady for us over the past couple of weeks with people making advance bookings. But we had a few bookings coming in as soon as Boris Johnson had made his announcement about lockdown restrictions being eased.

“It will all happen quickly as people start getting more confident.”

There are a number of restrictions on foreign travel at the moment. Earlier this month, just 12 worldwide destinations were placed on a green travel list for people in England, meaning anyone returning will not need to quarantine from 17th May.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the UK approach was “necessarily cautious”.

The measures have raised hopes of a staycation boom this year with people enjoying resorts across the UK instead of flying abroad.

Sarah Blaney said: “The rules and advice on people travelling abroad are ever changing.

“There are big risks for people booking foreign holidays because they just don’t know what is going to happen.

“It is all about enjoying the UK this year. This is definitely the year of the staycation.”

Appearing on Four In A Bed earlier this year has definitely helped.

Sarah said: “We have had quite a lot of interest from appearing on Four In A Bed.

“It has definitely improved our profile – our direct bookings have gone up since we appeared in the series.

“All publicity is good publicity! We have had lots of positive comments from people about our appearance on the show, which has been good.”

Sarah and her fellow hoteliers and guest house owners are now looking forward to welcoming visitors back to ‘Sunny Southport ‘ and believe there is no better place for them to come and enjoy a staycation or a holiday.

She said: “As a holiday resort, Southport has got everything!

“We have got superb golf courses, lots of places to enjoy walks, loads of places and attractions for families, some great events, and a great choice of restaurants and bars.

“Southport offers so much to so many different people.”
