A cake lovers paradise which has gained a small army of fans after it opened in Birkdale this year will today open a new venture – inside Southport Market.

Cake Corner has earned rave reviews since it opened at Crown Buildings, opposite The Crown pub, in July.

At midday today it is looking forward to welcoming customers old and new at its new unit inside the new look Southport Market, which enjoyed a £1.4million transformation into a new food, drink and events venture earlier this year.

Cake Corner owner Leanne Prescott said: “Wooo we are open in Southport Market today at 12pm. Who is coming to see us?

“We feel this will be fantastic for our business as a second location and a great addition to the market!

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported my business so far and to my three amazing staff. The shop has been better than I could have ever dreamed of and we are all ready to take on another challenge.

“Can’t wait to get started in our new stall, we are going to have lots of stock available!

“We will have a large variety of cakes available just like our shop and you will be able to add ice cream, cream or custard to any of our cakes to make it even more delicious!

“Please note our shop in Birkdale will still be open as normal, fully stocked as well as the market.

“Thank you again to everyone who supports my business. It honestly means the world.”

A Southport Market spokesperson said: “We are so happy to announce our latest addition to Southport Market – Cake Corner.

“This will be Cake Corner’s second location in Southport and we can’t wait to welcome them to join our other amazing traders; unbelievable brownies, blondies, cakes and more.

“Keep your eyes peeled, we know WE cannot WAIT.”

Cake Corner will soon be joined by Pincho’s, which is due to open in a few days’ time serving delicious Spanish tapas street food.

Pincho’s is part of the same firm as Allotment, which also has a unit at the market. Other ventures there include Pitamu (Greek street food), Hector’s Mexicana, 600 Degrees Pizza, Down And Oot (Canadian favourites) and more.

The opening of Southport Market has sparked a resurgence of Southport Market Quarter, with new independent local businesses opening including: Season Coffee, Bar & Kitchen; The Cake Box; Urban Attic; and Eva’s Sewing Room. The former Coronation pub is under new ownership while German Doner Kebab is due to move into the former McDonald’s building.

They joined some superb established Market Quarter favourites including Bernadette’s, Quicksilver Music, Vanilla Nova Cake Boutique, Market Blinds, Market Quarter Tattoo and others.

Cake Corner is the first venture by self-taught baker Leanne Prescott, and is already proving to be a huge success with local people.

People can sit in and enjoy a selection of cakes and a hot or cold drink, they can enjoy a takeaway, or they can order cakes for birthdays and special events.
