A local business owner in Southport has signed up to take part in the Tower to Castle Ultra Marathon!

Darren Boyd-Preece, who will run a huge 31 miles from Blackpool Tower to Lancaster Castle this autumn, is taking on the challenging event on on September 23, 2023 to raise money for Southport Soup Kitchen.

People can sponsor him on the Just Giving website here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the-dram

Darren opened the successful whisky-themed The Dram Gift Shop on Botanic Road in Churchtown Village in April last year.

He is busy training hard at the moment to ensure that he leads from the front – and doesn’t become the whisky chaser.

He said: “So in one of my famous, impulsive, let’s not think too much about it, decisions…. I have signed up for an ultra marathon!

“Just a distance of 31 miles from Blackpool Tower to Lancaster Castle.

“I thought if I was going to put my body through this ordeal I may as well do some good, so as is customary I have set up a just giving page with all proceeds going directly to Southport Soup Kitchen.

“The race is in September so I have a lot to do!

“I am currently running about 12 km so almost 25% of the full distance.

“If you want to support this cause then pop over to my Just Giving page  www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the-dram

“Any support will be most welcome.”

The Dram opened at 76 Botanic Road in Churchtown Village on Saturday 30th April 2022, as Darren and his family welcomed their delighted first customers.

The shop sells a wide range of gifts connected to whisky.

It also provides whisky and a tasting service so you can try before you buy. The tasting area in the shop is now sponsored by Arran Distillery.

The Dram Gift Shop has added to the quality food and drink choice already provided by the likes of Churchtown Deli, RS Fine Chocolate, Peets Plaice fishmongers, Graham Eyes butchers and others in the Village.
