Families are invited to enjoy the spectacular Christmas Lights Switch On at The Grand in Southport!

The most sparkling festive event in Southport has become even bigger and better this year.

The evening, hosted by In Demand radio DJ Claire Simmo, will take place from 6pm on Sunday 29th October, 2023 at the Grand on Lord Street.

Visitors can enjoy a brass band, live music, festive songs from vocalist Dave Broe, mulled wine, hot chocolate, mince pies and more.

Last year, which saw The Grand’s first Christmas, drew gasps from guests as they enjoyed seeing over 15,000 twinkling lights, 6,000 baubles, a giant Christmas tree and garlands galore.

This year, owners Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group are adding even more show-stopping festive decorations, as The Grand celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group Chairman Andrew Mikhail said: “Last year the reaction we had from people was fantastic. It was a superb Christmas Lights Switch On event.

“This year we are taking everything up a notch and making it even more festive!

“There will be even more lights, even more Christmas decorations, and more fantastic festive entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s free to come – but last year our switch on was extremely busy, so I would invite people to come early if they want to get a seat. It will be full!

“The Grand really is the place to be this Christmas. We have lots of festive events and party nights taking place. As a venue to enjoy your festive meals or Christmas nights out it is second to none.

“Tickets and bookings are going extremely well. We have lots going on for people to enjoy.”

The Grand Christmas Lights Switch On presenter Claire Simmo said: “I have been to a lot of events but the Christmas Lights Switch On at The Grand last year was like something out of a film! It was spectacular.

“I am really looking forward to it this year.

“The place was bouncing, it was full of families, there were lots of children there, there were carols, the Christmas tree and the decorations were amazing – it felt like the Christmas season had really begun in style!

“The Grand is such an incredible venue. Whenever you go in there it makes you feel special.

“With the decor, the staff, the food, you know you are going in for a really top quality experience.

“There is no better place to go and spend time during the Christmas season.”

Over £4 million has already been spent at The Grand in Southport to create The Grand Brasserie and Chloe’s Bar on the ground floor, plus the impressive Princess Grace function room and wedding suite on the first floor.

Harry’s Bar and Sky Bar on the top floor are due to open in 2024 with even more exciting  redevelopment plans in the pipeline.
