The brand new B&M store in Southport is opening its doors this Wednesday (16th August 2023), creating 40 new jobs.

The new store will be situated at Central 12 retail park and will be open from 8am onwards.

The firm will join together two vacant units, previously occupied by Outfit and Sports Direct in Units 1 and 2.

It will be situated between the existing Asda supermarket and Boots.

These are exciting times for Central 12, which was bought by LCP, part of M Core, in a deal believed to be worth £27 million in May this year.

A planning application has recently been submitted for a new 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant and takeaway in the former Royal Doulton unit as the new owners seek to install new tenants in the empty units at the park.

Anchored by an ASDA superstore, Central 12 comprises 162,143 sq ft of open convenience retail, with retailers including The Range, Poundland, Boots and Next.

The 13-unit shopping park, located on Derby Road, close to Southport Railway Station, also has a car park for 600 vehicles.

It was previously home to the Southport Steamport museum.

The new B&M store is one of nine new branches being opened by the national discount chain across the UK in the coming months.

The new 23,309 sq ft B&M store will include a new external garden centre area to the rear of the store, to allow a broader range of goods to be sold.

It is not yet known what the exact plans are for the opening day.

The B&M press office has been approached for comment.

In June, a B&M spokesperson said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about opening our new store in Southport, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store. We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door.”

The existing B&M store at 95 Lord Street, near The Garrick, must remain open until at least December 2025 due to a planning condition made by Sefton Council when planning permission was granted.

Stockton – September 14th

Newbury – October 7th

There will be relaunches at:

Reading – August 28th

Glasgow – August 26th

Switch Island, Liverpool – September 9th

Gateshead – October 28th

B&M is not the only retailer with new openings planned nationally.

Poundland will be opening 15 new stores in the coming weeks, as the retailer plans to expand across the country and TK Maxx is also eyeing up an expansion.

B&M is set to be the first national brand to join Central 12 just weeks after the retail park was bought by LCP / M Core.
