Merseyrail will not be running late night trains over the Christmas period this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions which go with it.
The rail operator has also decided not to operate Boxing Day services this year for the same reason.
Trains will finish at around 8pm on Christmas Eve and will also finish early, at a similar time, on New Year’s Eve.
Most of the Merseyrail network is under Tier 2 Covid restrictions, although some areas, such as Ormskirk and Aughton in Lancashire, are under the harsher Tier 3 rules.
A Merseyrail spokesperson said: “During the festive period there will be changes to our timetables, with some services finishing earlier than usual and some services not running.
“In the past we have run late night trains in the run up to Christmas and services on Boxing Day. “Due to the impact of COVID-19, these services will not operate this year.”
