MP Patrick Hurley says the planned £10 million transformation of the Town Hall Gardens will “rejuvenate the heart of Southport for decades to come”.
The space is due to become home to a vibrant botanical garden and performance space thanks to £5 million funding from the Government, with £2.5 million from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and £2.5 million from Sefton Council.
The regeneration of the gardens is the shared hope of the families of Alice Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Stancombe as their way of saying ‘thank you’ to the town who support those directly impacted throughout an unimaginably difficult time.
Three new artist’s impressions of how it could look have been released today (Monday 21st September 2026) as part of the second stage of Sefton Council’s consultation, with people’s views sought.

“Take a first look at the new-look Town Hall Gardens!
“These new images give us our clearest picture yet of how £10 million of investment could rejuvenate the heart of Southport for decades to come.
“After everything our town has been through, I think it’s really important that these plans reflect the strength, solidarity and community spirit Southport has shown, while also looking confidently to the future.
“In light of that, I’m particularly pleased to see people placed at the heart of the development, creating a welcoming, accessible and safe space for children, families and the wider community.
“The proposed Performance Plaza, Mega Ripples, Celebration Dunes and Botanical Garden will also draw on our cultural, coastal and horticultural heritage in a way that feels distinctly Southport.
“These are still proposals, so have your say and help shape what comes next.”
Sefton Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to have their say on the transformation, which aims to create a welcoming, accessible and safe multi-use space for families, children and the wider community.
The consultation is open until Monday 5th October 2026 and people can view the designs and complete the consultation via www.yourseftonyoursay.sefton.gov.uk.

Four connected character areas feature within the designs:
– The Performance Plaza
– The Mega Ripples
– Celebration Dunes
– The Botanical Garden.
Combined they would provide flexible space for performances and community events, opportunities for play and relaxation, new planting and improved biodiversity, as well as improved accessible routes through the gardens. Each is intended to reflect some of the very best characteristics of Southport and the Sefton coast.
People are now being asked to comment on the designs before the Council moves towards submitting a planning application.
Feedback from the consultation will be reviewed and will help guide the final proposals.
