Stand Up For Southport Blog by Andrew Brown
Ainsdale in Southport looks stunning as the Village competes for the National Britain In Bloom title, after already being judged to be the best in the North West.
These images show the UK’s top Britain In Bloom judges visiting, admiring how good Ainsdale looks, and chatting with so many local residents, volunteers and local businesses who keep the area looking fantastic.
Tragically, the visit took place on Monday, 29th July; everyone there was stunned as news started to come through about the terrible tragedy which happened at The Hart Space that same morning.
This visit happened a few weeks ago; with everything that has happened since, it now feels like a lifetime ago. A different life altogether even. Life will never be the same.
We are so fortunate to have so many volunteers in Ainsdale; on Lord Street; on Rotten Row; in Botanic Gardens; in Victoria Park; in Hesketh Park; in Bedford Park; and elsewhere.
Southport is only as good as we all make it. We have so many unseen heroes, proud of their local community, working selflessly every day.
Sadly, volunteers today are also tending thousands of flowers left in the Town Hall Gardens in Southport town centre in tribute to the three girls who died and all those who were injured in the shocking attack at The Hart Space.
They keep the flowers and all the other tributes looking good; they make sure the flowers are tended and watered; and every night take in all the teddies and cards so they’re not damaged by rain.
It’s all testament to the immense community spirit that exists across Southport.
People are so proud of our town. They care deeply about the families who live here.
We all need that community spirit now more than ever.
