Yarn bombing is beginning to explode in locations across Southport, in a series of ‘random acts of crochet kindness’.

Local residents have loved waking up to see crochet postbox toppers in areas such as Crossens and Banks.

More acts of subterfuge are being planned in the coming days, including outside a well-known care home in Southport.

The group is called Southport Hookers and you can see their latest work by following their Facebook page here

Members meet every Sunday at a secret location in Southport, with new people invited to get involved.

All they need is bags of enthusiasm, bags of knitting and a desire to carry out random acts of kindness across the community.

A Southport Hookers spokesperson said: “We are so excited that our first ever Postbox Toppers are now out in Banks and Crossens, and are getting some great reviews. Have you seen them yet?

“If you would like a topper for a local postbox and can help with the making of it, please let us know!

“We are amazed by the overwhelming support we have received regarding the postbox toppers, which has just encouraged us to keep on going so you should see a few more popping up.

“We received a message asking if we could do a post box topper outside a care home in Southport so they could take their residents over to visit it.

“Although we are all really busy working on Remembrance and Christmas we couldn’t say no so we have managed to squeeze this one in.

“All of our members are working hard to bring a bit of cheer to this postbox which will hopefully be ready soon.

“We are also looking to welcome anyone interested in joining our crochet group.

“The group is made up of men and women of all ages and of all crocheting abilities. We have complete beginners to experts.

“We generally work on what interests us. So some of our group are working on cardigans, beginners blankets and we have a group that is dedicated to working on the postbox toppers.

“Our postbox toppers are part of a campaign of #randomactsofcrochetkindness so always keen to do what we can.”
