Tik Taco in Southport

The owner of a thriving Mexican restaurant in Southport says it’s “an amazing achievement” having been shortlisted as one of the top 10 Hidden Gems in Merseyside.

Tik Taco, on Coronation Walk in Southport town centre, opened during the Covid pandemic but has grown in popularity ever since, employing six people and operating as a busy local restaurant in addition to a popular takeaway service.

Now they are asking as many people as possible to vote for them to win in the Hidden Gem category in the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.

Tik Taco owner Anthony Greenland said: “It’s an amazing achievement to be recognised as a Hidden Gem in Merseyside after such a short amount of time since we have been open.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without all the hard work, from my family, the staff who go above and beyond and of course more importantly the customers.

“Without them Tik Taco wouldn’t be the success it is.

“We probably started Tik Taco at the worst time in the catering industry. In the middle of a global pandemic, but we have gone from strength to strength, in the just 11 short months we went from a pop up at a friends cafe, to having our own premises with a takeaway and then to a restaurant and employing six local people, as well as drivers for the takeaway.”

Tik Taco is now among 10 Hidden Gems shortlisted, four of them from Southport.

Voting will close at 5pm on Friday, January 27 2023.

The other three Southport nominees this year are: Silcock’s Carousel; Cranberry’s Café; and Southport Bijou Cinema.

The other six Merseyside nominees are: Future Yard, Birkenhead; Home Farm Restaurant; Speke Hall, Liverpool; Red Brick Market, Liverpool; Ten Streets Social, Liverpool; The Welsford Bistro, Liverpool; and The Wheelbarrow,  Liverpool.

This award, sponsored by The Guide, is decided solely by public vote.

The winner will be announced at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards at Liverpool Cathedral on Thursday, 2nd March 2023.
