A fast-growing Southport legal firm is excited to be moving into one of the town’s most iconic buildings.

United Legal Assistance, currently based at Charlotte House on Hoghton Street, is preparing to move into the former Southport Crown Post Office on  Lord Street.

The successful local business, which was founded in 2014, has doubled in size over the past year and is looking to move into bigger new premises.

Extensive renovation work is currently taking place to create a modern working environment while restoring the historic features of one of the town’s most-loved buildings.

The Southport Crown Post Office site has been empty since 2014 when the Post Office services were transferred to the first floor of WH Smith on Chapel Street.

The historic Grade II building was built before the First World War and thrived as Southport’s main Post Office for many years.

It forms part of a larger group of buildings within this area of Lord Street including the current NatWest building, all of which date to approximately 1912. It is one of the most important sites within the Lord Street Conservation area.

United Legal Assistance boasts a friendly, honest and professional team with over 20 years experience in the insurance and claims management industry and is inviting people to join them at their smart new office, which has space for 110 employees.

United Legal Assistance Operations Manager John Young said:”We are really excited about moving into one of the most iconic buildings in Southport.

“Renovation work is ongoing but we are hoping we are going to be in our new offices by Halloween. We are waiting for an exact date but it is getting close.

“We have 59 members of staff at the moment but are very keen to take on new people to come and join us.

“We have ambitions for that number to grow to around 70 people by the end of the year.

“United Legal Assistance is a fast expanding firm and a real success story for the region.

“We have doubled our workforce over the last 12 months and we are still growing.

“We have got three job offers in at the moment and have more vacancies to fill.

“This is a really exciting time to come and join a fast growing business with lots of opportunities to grow and develop.

“We offer the chance to study for professional qualifications so people can learn and grow with us.

“We are continually investing in developing people’s careers.”

By breathing new life into a central Lord Street building which has been empty for the past nine years, United Legal Assistance will help to revitalise the local area.

The firm is leading the refurbishment and conservation of both the inside and outside of the site and re-planning the ground floor areas, bringing them back into viable commercial use after a long period of vacancy and decline.

They want it to become an integral part of the Lord Street area for many years to come.

John Young said: “The former Post Office building is one of the most iconic landmarks in Southport and we want the renovation work carried out to a very high standard that respects its remarkable history.

“Adam, Gavin and Peter are all born and bred in Southport and we are very proud to be expanding the firm into one of the most iconic and beautiful landmark buildings on Lord Street.

“Our current location on Hoghton Street has been really good but moving into this site is an amazing move for everyone at United Legal.

“It will be a brilliant place to work. It is right in the centre of Southport, with lots of parking nearby, and just a couple of minutes’ walk from Southport Train Station and lots of bus stops.

“There are lots of great shops and restaurants nearby.

“We are currently in the process of organising a grand opening to ensure we open with a bang.

“United Legal be a bigger fan of Southport and what is happening here. It is a superb place to live and work.

“There is lots of redevelopment happening, with building work taking place on the new Marine Lake Centre, the new Southport Enterprise Arcade coming soon and lots happening elsewhere on Lord Street at The Grand and The Garrick.

““Due to our expansion, we currently have a number of job roles available which will suit people with a wide variety of skills.

“We’d love people to come and join us at our superb new offices.”
