Thousands of families gathered to celebrate the Christmas Fayre in Churchtown in Southport on Sunday (24th November 2024).

The Village was packed with people as they enjoyed a day of free festive entertainment with live music, fairground rides, choirs, brass bands, princesses, dog studio and show, artisan stalls, Santa’s grotto, and lots of opportunities for Christmas shopping.

Crowds gathered around as they watched performances from groups including: Babyballet,  Southport Wellbeing Choir, DBA School Of Dance, Yooks Ukuleles, Wright’s Performing Arts,   Sea Cadets, Roundelay Choir, Churchtown Primary School Choir, Marshside Brass Band. and the Southport Salvation Army Band.

The event was organised by local traders in the Village.

People also took part in a cute Botanic Road Elf Hunt, with prizes to be won.

The historic St Cuthbert’s Church, which dates back to 1178, opened its doors for families to take a look inside, and to take the opportunity to light a candle for a loved one.

Queenscourt Hospice was there with a charity tombola, and volunteers from the Cornerstone Library – which celebrated its first birthday recently – met readers with their book stall.

The Hesketh Arms created a large marquee and an outside bar outside the pub to welcome more customers, as Botanic Road was closed to traffic.

Over 40 artisan stalls filled with local traders and Village shops opening their doors gave everyone the opportunity to pick up some great Christmas gifts.

Speaking in the Stand Up For Southport Facebook group, Karen Merrifield said: “It was lovely to see so many people coming out to support this. Churchtown has some lovely little shops.”

Pam Cooper said: “It was a great day. Lots of happy faces.”

Jools Milb said: “Thank you Churchtown. We had the best day with our stall outside the Hesketh Arms and met some really lovely people. Such a gorgeous village.”

“Finished off with coffee and cake at the Vintage Tea Room.”

Doreen Harris said: “Cold but lovely day, a lot of support for local people.”
