This year’s Susan Baker Memorial Ride has raised over £8,600 for the Cash For Kids charity!

The “staggering amount” was made possible through a charity horse ride which took place in August.

Around 40 horses set off from Foxwood Stables on Long Lane in Banks, before heading through Banks Village, Crossens, Churchtown, Roe Lane, Manchester Road, Lord Street, and then back along the same route.

The charity event was launched by Amanda Fox in 2021, after losing her Mum, Susan Baker, on Mother’s Day in 2018. Amanda said she received “outstanding care from Queenscourt for her last days”.

The initial ride saw thousands of pounds raised for Queenscourt Hospice, while this year’s chosen charity was Cash For Kids, a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK.

Horses were dressed in pink and yellow in memory of Susan Baker, as these were her favourite colours.

This year the youngest rider was just 5-years-old, while the oldest was 77.

Amanda Fox said: “A huge thank you to everyone that supported our Susan Baker Memorial ride this year we are astounded we have raised £8,656.51.

“This is a staggering amount!

“Jaqueline and I are off to Cash For Kids on Thursday to present them with a cheque.

“A huge thanks again to everyone involved.”

The first Susan Baker Memorial Ride in 2021 raised £5,000 for Queenscourt Hospice, where Susan Baker received superb end of life care from the team at the facility on Town Lane in Southport.

Last year’s event saw funds raised divided between Cash for Kids and the North West Air Ambulance.

Susan Baker’s daughter, Amanda Fox, described her Mum as “my rock, my inspiration, my mentor, my Mum”.

Susan Baker died on Mother’s Day 2018 aged 71 from Multiple Sclerosis.

Her daughter Amanda said that “My mum was one of the lucky ones, who received outstanding care from Queenscourt for her last days. Many people don’t get this opportunity, as palliative care in this country is not available to us all.

“My Mum was a lifelong horse rider and very respected in the horse community.”
