Seven years ago today, the Hairy Bikers rode into Southport as they called in to enjoy a royal street party to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
Dave Myers and Simon ‘Si’ King joined 650 party goers at Crosby Road in Birkdale on Sunday, 12th June 2016 as they were filmed at the event for their BBC TV series at the time.
They made and handed out chicken sandwiches to guests, and judged a royal cake competition.
Dave Myers said he was delighted to join people at “the most royal street in Britain”, after hearing how Crosby Road had hosted four giant royal street parties in recent years.

The celebration was organised by Jonathan Cunningham and saw hundreds of people turning the road red white and blue.
Adults paid £5 each for tickets with children under 16 admitted free.
Hundreds of pounds was raised for the Southport Lifeboat charity, which was there in force with several crew members, the lifeboat, and two quad bikes.

Jonathan Cunningham said at the time: “What an amazing day, as another royal street party on Crosby Road has turned into a very special event which has far exceeded all my expectations.
“It has been a fitting tribute to Her Majesty The Queen as she celebrates reaching 90 years of age, while also raising lots of money for Southport Lifeboat.
“The Hairy Bikers have been fantastic sports, judging our royal cake bake-off, and signing lots of books and autographs for people.

“Even when we had a downpour early on, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
“Anyone who says that there’s no such thing as community spirit any more should have seen it here.
“We have had offers from people to help from all over. Lots of people who couldn’t make it have made donations to Southport Lifeboat.

“It has shown how close the Southport Lifeboat charity is to people’s hearts.”
Among those delighted to meet The Hairy Bikers was fellow Geordie Albert Chisholm, aged 94.
Hairy Biker Si King was delighted to spend time with Mr Chisholm, catching up about the North East.

He said at the time: “I am from North Shields, but I have lived in Southport for the past 65 years.
“The Hairy Bikers are from where I come from, they are Geordies.
“It was a beautiful day today. I loved it. I couldn’t have wished for better.”

The former Royal Navy sailor, who spent three years serving in convoys during World War II and six years working on the Suez Canal in Egypt, also told how he shared the TV chefs’ love of motorbikes.
He said: “I used to ride a motorbike but these days I ride a moped! I am still a keen rider.”
Sandgrounder Radio was launched in Southport the day before the Hairy Bikers visit and broadcast live from the event throughout the day, with presenters including Andy Hilbert, Rob Charles and Johnny Kennedy.
