The Beatles in Southport

The days when The Beatles used to come and perform in Southport will be celebrated today.

The ‘Get Back’ to the Fab 4 Southport walking tour takes place on Saturday 9th September 2023 as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

Trips will start at the Mermaid fountain, outside Sainsbury’s supermarket, Lord street, Southport, Merseyside, PR9 0AG

Between March 1961 and October 1963 The Beatles performed about 30 times in Southport over nine different venues.

Each venue tells a story, so join organiser Roger Nicholson on the Fab 4 Southport walking tour to listen to these stories.

Virtually unknown outside of Hamburg and Liverpool The Beatles arrived in Southport for the first time in March 1961 and performed twice in the same evening at two different venues.

The Beatles went on to perform about 30 times in the resort at seven more venues until their last Southport concert in October 1963.

Only four months later the Fab Four performed to a television audience of 73 million on the USA“Ed Sullivan Show.
The time The Beatles spent in Southport reflects the period of their career when they had to impress UK audiences before conquering the USA and achieved ultimate world domination.
