The Great Pyramid at Giza features in the Brick Wonders exhibition at The Atkinson in Southport

Lego lovers will enjoy seeing the wonders of the world recreated from half a million toy bricks.

Brick Wonders: Around the world in Lego bricks is being staged at The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport until September 26.

Brick Wonders transports you around the world to ancient, modern and natural wonders, recreated from hundreds of thousands of Lego bricks by Warren Elsmore and his team.

The exhibition is inspiring for families as well as Lego enthusiasts, also known as AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego)!

Elsmore is an artist in Lego bricks and a lifelong fan of Lego.

He has been in love with the little plastic bricks since the age of four and now spends his days creating amazing models that tour museums and galleries throughout Europe.

From the building of the pyramids to the invention of the internet, journey around the globe and be inspired to discover and create your own wonders at home.

Warren Elsmore said: “I am really excited to bring Brick Wonders to Southport!

“Building the models in Brick Wonders was great fun – and a real challenge when it came to building models of wonders such as ‘The Internet’.

“It’s always even more fun to see how people react to them though.

“I hope that anyone who visits Brick Wonders is inspired to have a go at building a wonder of their own at home. Who knows what that could be?”

Beginning with the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the exhibition takes in historic, modern and natural wonders from all seven continents.

From the great pyramid of Giza to the natural pyramid of the Matterhorn, the bustle of Old London Bridge to the awesome natural display of the Aurora Australis, and those everyday marvels we forget to wonder at, such as electricity and the internet.

Each wonder is built using only standard Lego bricks and a good amount of imagination!

The models vary in scale and visitors can find out how many bricks were used to recreate each wonder, as well as how many hours it took to complete.

For example, the large installation of the Great Barrier Reef is built using 200,000 Lego bricks and took 55 days to complete.

The Trojan Horse is recreated using 60 bricks and took 90 minutes to complete.

The Brick Wonders exhibition also features a series of Lego stop motion animations from Morgan Spence that are being shared on The Atkinson’s Facebook page.

‘At Home Activities’ are available to download from the exhibition page.

“I am sure many of our visitors will be inspired to create their own wonders of the world.”
