On Sunday 28th August 2022 the Southport Writers Circle invites you celebrate its 50th anniversary of encouraging the written and spoken word at its literary festival.
It is open to all and will be held at Southport Community Centre on Norwood Road between 10am and 4pm.
Founded in 1971 by Joan Nicholson, SWC was created in our lovely town on the principles of encouraging writers of all forms.
Over time the group has developed and thrived but retained the same goal. The friendly group of current members meets weekly and is welcoming to new visitors who would like to apply for membership.
The forms of writing explored are limitless; they range from poetry to prose, short stories to novels and even scripts. Experienced writers and those who have begun to enjoy the art form more recently are encouraged to share their work and constructively critique.
Members enjoy the social element as well as interesting and entertaining events and competitions.
The group managed to continue to meet throughout various lockdowns thanks to the wonders of technology, but members are enjoying being back to face to face and are eagerly preparing for their festival.
At the festival there will be favourites such as The Endless Story Scroll, a range of poetry, plays and prose performances as well as plenty of local authors and businesses to meet and greet. There will be Open Mic, author tables, creative activities and more.
There are still a couple of Open Mic and Author table slots remaining, so contact the group if you would like to enquire.
To visit the festival there is an entry fee of £2 and you can also purchase refreshments.
For more information check their website or follow them on Facebook. They would love to see you there!
