An iconic restaurant in Southport town centre is encouraging people to support local businesses as Independents Day 2021 takes place this weekend.

The Lansdowne Bistro is situated on Anchor Street and offers a great choice of classic home cooked British dishes, famous for its steaks, seafood and lobster.

The restaurant has been a popular haunt among generations of Sandgrounders but has recently introduced some exciting new changes after new owners Jamie Rae and Patrick Tyndall took over the reins from previous owner Mark Tyndall last year.

The Lansdowne Bistro co owner Jamie Rae said: “I would urge people to use independent restaurants, bars, shops and other ventures in Southport and to support this year’s Independents Day – not just this weekend, but all year round.”

This year’s Independents Day takes place this Saturday and Sunday (3rd and 4th July).

Supported by Southport BID, it is a campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, but with an annual focus on July 4th: ‘Independents’ Day’ itself.

Independents account for around 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country.

Jamie Rae said: “People who have set up in business like ourselves at The Lansdowne Bistro are full of passion and flair for what they do best and pass that onto their valued customers. “Customers get treated with the utmost respect and gratitude for their support and business and this is reflected with attentive personal service and a personalised approach to menu development and listening to what our customers want.

“Many chain brands are built on volume, meaning quality of product and service may be compromised and customers can be thought of as a number on a spreadsheet.

“In a small independent business each customer is supporting a family or a personal dream. “After working for some of the leading chain brands in the country from personal experience, owning a small independent restaurant gives you the freedom to express how you believe the venue can be the best it can be and makes each independent different and unique and customers should embrace and enjoy this.”

The Lansdowne Bistro, on Anchor Street, is one of Southport’s real hidden gems.

It is fast forging an excellent reputation among diners, after enjoying new ownership last year.

However it is very much a case of the best of both worlds, with dynamic new changes adding to the best of what The Lansdowne Bistro has been known and loved for over many years.

The bistro was run by legendary Southport restaurateur Mark Tyndall for many years, after his previous ventures included Francisca’s on King Street.

The family tradition for great food lives on with Mark’s son, Patrick Tyndall, now taking ownership alongside friend and business partner Jamie Rae.

The new business enjoyed its launch night in August 2020 and after months in lockdown is now enjoying welcoming back its many regular customers – as well as hosting lots of new ones.

Jamie Rae said: “It’s been great to welcome back all our regular customers and so many new faces who have been desperate to try us for the first time.

“It’s clear from customer feedback and engaging with all our customers that people are desperate to get out and support their favorite local businesses and we are so overwhelmed by this response.

“We have been getting lots of bookings from guests for delayed birthday parties and various family and friend gatherings, some of whom have not seen each other for almost 18 months. It’s been fantastic to be a part of bringing people back together and creating special memories.”

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “Southport has so many superb independent businesses, and we are pleased to see them back open once again after the easing of lockdown restrictions.

“This has been such a tough few months for local firms and they need your backing now more than ever.

“Whether you are looking to enjoy shopping, going for a meal out, sharing a night out with friends or experiencing some of our great attractions, Independents’ Day UK 2021 is a perfect opportunity for taking part.

“Southport BID has shown our commitment through our dedicated Southport Independents website and social media pages, where you can find great stories, offers and events happening locally.”

Jamie and Paddy have enjoyed making their mark at The Lansdowne Bistro since taking over.
