‘We often avoid conversations about making a Will or Power of Attorney but the alternatives are much heavier’

We’ve all said it.

We’ve all felt that “brain fry” when we think about paperwork. But I’m curious—if you aren’t already organised what is actually stopping you from getting your Will or Power of Attorney sorted ?

Is it one of the “The Big Four” hurdles?

1. The Decision Loop: You’re stuck on who to pick as a Power of Attorney or Executor. (It feels like you are two-timing or choosing a favorite sibling, doesn’t it?)

2. The Blended Family Puzzle: You’ve remarried or have a blended family, and you’re worried about how to make it “fair” for everyone.

3. The Time Thief: You think it’s going to take weeks of meetings, so you wait for a “quiet time” that never comes.

4. The “Out of Date” Trap: You have one from 10 years ago, but life has moved on—and you aren’t sure if the old one even counts anymore.

Here is the tough truth: We avoid these conversations because they feel heavy, but the alternative is much heavier.

Without a clear set of instructions, the people we love most are left with the “Greatest Heartache.” They aren’t just grieving; they’re guessing. They’re navigating legal mazes, dealing with “intestacy” rules that might exclude the very people you wanted to protect, and sometimes, facing family friction that a simple piece of paper could have prevented.

If you’re stuck, what’s the one question or decision that’s stopping you? Let’s try to move it from the “Someday” pile to the “Done” pile.

I always recommend the services of the fantastic team at Jackson Lees Group and Farrington Law who can deal with clients countrywide.
