The volunteers leading the new Southport Music Board and Southport Creatives have been praised for their work in Parliament.
Both groups have been launched this year, to champion and promote Southport’s rich arts and culture scene.
Southport Creative held its first gathering at Southport Market this summer, with the next one planned for Wednesday 25th November 2026.

Southport Music Board held its launch and networking event, sponsored by KGV Sixth Form College, at The Warehouse Arts Centre on Wednesday 14th October 2026.
Both are appealing for talented local people within our town to get involved.

Southport MP Patrick Hurley has called for a discussion to be held in the House of Commons to highlight the importance of arts and culture and to properly recognise the contributions of our artists and creatives.
Speaking during a debate in Parliament, Southport MP Patrick Hurley said:
“I add my voice to the bid from my hon. Friend Chris Webb for Blackpool to become a City of Culture, but we must not forget towns of culture.
“In that spirit, I take this opportunity to commend the teams behind the Southport Music Board and the Southport Creatives collective, both of which were formed after a series of roundtable discussions I held earlier this year.
“Southport’s arts and culture scene is thriving and, if 2027 is anything like this year, the future is bright.
“Will the Leader of the House make time for a debate on the importance of arts and culture in order to properly recognise the contributions of our artists and creatives?”
Replying, Alan Campbell, Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons, Chair, Modernisation Committee said:
“I join my hon. Friend in congratulating all those behind the Southport Music Board and the Southport Creatives collective on their work, as well as everyone involved in making local arts events a success.
“The Government is very much committed to supporting local communities in this regard.
“I encourage him to apply for a Westminster Hall debate so that he can make his point in more detail for his constituents to hear, which would be a cause for greater pride in their fantastic community.”
