Southport Market has been named as one of the top 10 seaside markets in the UK.
It comes as no surprise. The stylish venue celebrated its second birthday last month, after a record breaking year of success.
Nearly half a million meals and drinks have been served to thousands of people who have visited the popular food market in Southport town centre in the last twelve months.
An astounding 422,300 dishes, including 30,000 burgers and 45,000 pizzas, have been sold at the King Street venue as staff and traders worked tirelessly to keep up with demand.
This year saw the addition of Southport Market’s Extravaganza space hosting a huge array of private hire events as well as sell-out experiences and shows.
Researchers identified the top UK coastal markets by analysing 32 markets in coastal locations on a number of factors, including Tripadvisor reviews, Instagram hashtags, TikTok views and Google searches which were weighted to establish a final index.
They placed Southport Market in eighth place, with Tynemouth Market at number one, Swansea Market at number two and Fleetwood Market in number three.
With Google searches for ‘seaside markets near me’ skyrocketing by 168.29% in the last three months alone, compared to the three months before, the study by market stall gazebo suppliers, Gazeboshop, aims to give Brits a comprehensive list of the UK’s best seaside markets to visit this summer.
Racking up over 74,800 views on TikTok and receiving a review score of 3.5 on Tripadvisor, Southport Market is traditionally open between Wednesday and Sunday, but is currently opening every Tuesday too during the school summer holidays.
Southport Food Market is home to 10 food traders, all serving delicious and freshly cooked food from around the world. The central carousel bar serves local ales, cocktails, a variety of gins and hot drinks.
It is operated by Sefton Council and opened in July 2021 thanks to £1.4 million funding.
