The first of the new Comedy Bingo Winter Socials at Southport Market has been a “brilliant” success, with a room full of people enjoying a fun afternoon together.
The event was hosted by local comedian and compere Brendan Riley and was sponsored by Halliwell Jones MINI, as part of their Big Love campaign.
There are eight Winter Socials confirmed as taking place, with the next one scheduled for Wednesday 15th November 2023 with doors open at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Big Comedy UK is organising the afternoons as a way of bringing people of all ages together, putting smiles on faces and tackling isolation during the dark winter months.
Brendan Riley said: “I am over the moon! It’s been a brilliant afternoon.
“The funding from Halliwell Jones MINI has allowed us to provide a series of Comedy Bingo Winter Social events, with four dates before Christmas, and confirmed dates all the way up until the end of February.

“It means that people can plan when they want to come and can look forward to joining us.
“Our Winter Socials aim to tackle social isolation in the community.
“I’d also like to thank Leah and her team at Southport Market for helping us.

“It’s been a tough few months for people. The Covid pandemic really isolated a lot of people. Things like the cost of living crisis and rising fuel bills since then haven’t helped.
“When we first started our events, we thought we would attract a more elderly crowd of people, but it has been a real mix, which has been fantastic.
“We have had people of all ages: retired people, elderly people, young people, young kids running around, groups of friends, mums with their children, people new to the town.

“It has made for a really lovely atmosphere with lots of people sitting together and just having a really fun afternoon with big smiles on their faces.
“It costs just £3, either in advance via Skiddle or on the door, which includes all the bigo books you’ll need, plus a free drink. We wanted to make it as affordable as possible for people.
“If any groups want to come along, any young mums’ groups, any toddler groups, or anyone else, please get in touch, everyone’s welcome.”

The gatherings see doors at Southport Market, on King Street in Southport town centre, open at 1pm, with the shows starting at 1.30pm and finishing at 3.30pm.

Tickets cost £3 each and include all the bingo cards you need, in addition to a free cup of tea, cup of coffee, glass of wine or glass of lager.
People can book their place via Skiddle or the Big Comedy website www.bigcomedyuk.com
Tickets can also be bought on the door on the day of the events, subject to availability.
