Jollyes, the Pet People, was delighted to support this year’s Southport Mad Dog 10k run which saw hundreds of runners race around the picturesque seaside town on Sunday (4th February 2024). 

Jollyes provided headline sponsorship in a welcome boost for the 13th annual Mad Dog 10k, which has consistently been named in ‘The UK’s Best 10ks’ by various running organisations including the National Running Awards. 

The firm provided ‘Doggy Bags’ for runners, while Jollyes CEO Joe Wykes presented medals to the winners and runners-up. 

Joe was also among a sizable team of Jollyes colleagues who enjoyed taking part in the race.

Mascot Jollyes Joe was present to meet families. 

Everyone is welcome at the Southport Mad Dog 10k as the race caters for runners of all types, regardless of experience.

Children ran in the Pups Race at 10am before the adults set off in the main race at 10.40am. 

They started at Stanley High School, running up Fleetwood Road and then along the coastal road past Southport Beach and Southport Pier, past Marine Lake and then back to the finish line near the school. 

The event has a different dog theme every year, with this one revealed as “Barkbie”, last year’s theme was ‘Maverlick’, while previous years have seen ‘Raiders of the Lost Bark’, ‘Star Paws’ amongst others.

There were lots of people running in Barbie themed fancy dress, while supporters of the Southport Saviours charity competed as a full wedding party including bride, groom, vicar, best man and bridesmaids. 

The 2024 Southport Mad Dog winners and runners-up were:

Women’s: 1st: Nicola Jackson (36:26); 2nd: Caroline Brock (39.29); 3rd: Dominique Searle (40:28).

Men’s: 1st: Luke Minns (34:08); 2nd Francois Rafferty (35:20); 3rd Simon Croft (35:23).

The best fancy dress competition was won by Charlie Westbrook-Platts. 

Jollyes CEO Joe Wykes said:

“We really enjoyed supporting and running in the Southport Mad Dog 10k for the first time. 

“It’s a fantastic community event, which sees lots of money raised for local charities by the runners. 

“There was a brilliant atmosphere as we ran around the course, made better by the sheer enthusiasm of the runners and the encouragement from people cheering and the bands dotted around making it very lively.

“We’ve enjoyed huge support from customers since we opened our new Jollyes store in Southport in 2022 and are proud to be part of the community supporting events in the town and local pet parents.

Southport Mad Dog 10k was founded by Southport Hesketh Round Table. which continues to support it.
