Volunteers from Southport Lifeboat have been thanked for their life-saving work by being presented with special Jubilee Medals

Southport Lifeboat is throwing open its doors for two Open Days over the Easter holidays!

They will take place 10am-3.30pm on Good Friday 7th April and Easter Saturday 8th April, free admission, with everyone welcome.

The life-saving volunteers moved into their purpose-built £1.4 million facility on Marine Drive on New Year’s Day 2022, and responded to 43 incidents in the 12 months alone.

The new centre was made possible thanks to generous donations from local people.

Many of them were through the Southport Lifeboat charity shop on Everton Road in Birkdale which is run by charity founder Kath Wilson, who has been shortlisted for a Pride Of Sefton Award.

A Southport Lifeboat spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce that we will once again be opening our doors to the public at two open days over the Easter holidays.

“Taking place on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th April, you will be given a guided tour of our new lifeboat station, and (call out permitting) the chance to see the lifesaving equipment used to keep Southport’s shores safe.

“There’s no need to book a ticket, just turn up on either of the days and meet our volunteers.

“Please note: There is no on-site parking or vehicle access to the station. Nearby car parks are available, including the Esplanade Car Park next to Southport Eco Centre.

“We look forward to seeing you there between 10am and 3.30pm. Thank you for your support!”

It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.

Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI, which abandoned Southport many years ago.

There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining Lifeboat Lotto or online donations.
