Southport FC is facing its ‘biggest test since before lockdown’ – and wants ‘Port fans to turn up in numbers and get right behind them!

The club’s manager, coaching staff and players are subsidising coach travel for the Isuzu FA Trophy match against Chesterfield this Saturday (9th December) and is appealing for supporters to give them their backing.

A Southport FC spokesperson said: “The Club faces arguably its biggest test since before lockdown on Saturday when we travel to face the National League’s current league leaders in Chesterfield in the 3rd round of The Isuzu FA Trophy.

“And it’s therefore vitally important that as many of the ‘Port travelling faithful as possible are able to make the trip to Derbyshire to cheer the players on.

“To help in this, manager Jim Bentley, his coaching staff and players have contributed a significant sum to subsidise the cost of the coach travel in the hope that our supporters can fill at least two 53-seater coaches and help to create the best possible away support atmosphere at The SMH Group Stadium on Saturday.”

Jim Bentley said: “We have all been blown away by the support our fans have provided at places like Rushall, Bishop’s Stortford and Scunthorpe this season and the lads all wanted to do something to say a massive thank you and to encourage even more to get behind the team.

“With the Chesterfield match being such a big occasion for the Club, this seemed the obvious game to do this for and if the Yellow Army can help to give us that extra one or two per cent then who knows what we might be able to achieve on Saturday.”

Club Captain Adam Anson said: “All the lads wanted to say a massive thanks to the fans that have supported us on the road this season, it really does make a big difference knowing that so many ‘Port fans are with us and making so much noise. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday.”

The supporters’ coaches will leave The Big Help Stadium at 10.30am on Saturday and what better way to thank Jim and the players for their generosity than by booking a seat on the coach at the subsidised price of only £15 per person (or £22 for one adult and one child).
