Southport Football Club is inviting people to join them for an opening training session this Tuesday (29th July 2025) as a way of enabling the community to come together in a family-friendly environment.

A Southport FC spokesperson said: “A reminder that it is our open training session this Tuesday 29th July 2025.

“This date marks one year since the horrific stabbings in our town, and allows us to bring together the community in a family-friendly environment.

“Tickets for the evening are free, but should be secured in advance to allow us to manage numbers efficiently. There will also be the opportunity for attendees to purchase refreshments at the ground. Book your ticket HERE

Southport FC Chief Operating Officer Andy Burgess said: “We’re pleased that we’re able to invite our supporters into Haig Avenue to watch the players take part in the evening’s training session.

“This will give fans a closer look at our squad being put through their paces by our new management team, and an opportunity for them to meet the group, get autographs and photos and chat with the players and staff.

“We also want to offer an opportunity for the community to come together to mark one year on since the awful events of last year that happened just around the corner from us.

“We will take a moment during the event to observe a silence and remember the little girls who so tragically lost their lives, and we hope as many people as possible are able to join us on what will be a poignant and emotional evening.”

This Sunday (3rd August 2025) Southport Football Club and Southport Hesketh Round Table are co-organising a Charity Match at Haig Avenue with all proceeds going to the Southport families. Kick off is 3pm.

All money raised will go towards the Southport families impacted by last summer’s tragedy.
