Work is continuing on the new Southport Lifeboat Station

Work on the brand new Southport Lifeboat station is expected to be completed in late summer this year.

Senate Group, a local Liverpool based mechanical, electrical and construction company, has now come in to complete the much-awaited project.

Working closely with Southport Offshore Rescue Trust, the registered charity which runs the Lifeboat station, the team at Senate will carry out the completion of the build.

The works will take place over the next few months and will include internal mechanical and electrical works, as well as external cladding and construction works, including a full groundwork package.

Kiera Vogel, Co-Owner and Director at Senate Group said: “To be able to begin work on a building which is such a vital part of the local community, is hugely rewarding for Senate.

“The completion of the Southport Lifeboat station is an exciting prospect, and it means the crucial services the team at the Lifeboat Trust provides will remain in Southport for many years to come, continuing to be a pillar of the local community and more importantly continuing to save lives.”

The new station replaces the old lifeboat house nearby that was built in 1886 and used by the Southport Offshore Rescue trust since 1988. The crew are all unpaid volunteers who are on call 24/7 and have helped well over 400 people since forming.

Nicola Goldup, Trustee Director of the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust said: “We are delighted to be able to progress the project to a completion with Senate and look forward to delivering an iconic building for our seafront.

“The Lifeboat Station will serve as an operational base and training centre for all our crew and lifesaving equipment for generations to come.

“The Trust would like to thank the people of Southport for their support and understanding during the construction of the building and cannot wait to welcome everyone who has helped us to the new Lifeboat Station soon.”

It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.

Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI.

There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining LifeboatLotto or online donations.
