Southport’s independent cinema has been nominated for a national award.
Bijou Cinema has been honoured for the Cinema For All 2020 Community Cinema Conference and Film Society of the Year Awards.
The attraction, which opened last year in the former Latin Lounge building on Post Office Avenue in Southport town centre, is run by a volunteer-led and not-for-profit Community Interest Company.
Visitors can enjoy a mixture of new, old, classic and indie films.
Movies scheduled for September include Flash Gordon, Good Morning Vietnam, The Lady Eve and more.
A Bijou Cinema spokesperson said: “We have some good news!
“Since 1946, Cinema For All has been the national support and development organisation for community-based cinema. In their 74 years of operation, Cinema For All have been helping communities across the country to develop and sustain film screenings and operation, and do a lot in promoting and championing independent cinema talent.
“Every year, Cinema For All holds the annual Community Cinema Conference and the Film Society of the Year Awards.
“Southport Bijou Cinema is proud to say we’ve been nominated for the “Dr Shaw Award For New Society”, alongside five other amazing new cinemas which opened within the last year. “We’re proud and ecstatic about this news, but would most of all like to thank you all for your support in getting us to this point, almost one year after opening!
“To everybody who has supported us since October 2019, it’s you that has got us this nomination!
“The awards are on September 19th, so we’ll be sure to update you all with the progress! Wish us luck!”
