Southport Bars and Pubs completed the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan Cancer

Southport Bars and Pubs have raised nearly £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after they completed the Longest Day Golf Challenge.

Their epic feat included playing 72 holes and walking over 20 miles in just one day at Hurlston Hall Golf Club in Scarisbrick near Southport.

Southport Bars and Pubs Captain, Liam McDonald, said: “We did it! After a long and painful day we have finally finished the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We have had pars, birdies, 29 degree heat and even a trolley rolling into a stream.

“Our great day for a great cause started at 5am and finished at 9.15pm and we were all pretty much dead on our feet.

“Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us.

“We never thought we would say this but bring on Longest Day 2022!”

The friends completed their mission at Hurlston Hall on Thursday, 22nd July.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides physical, financial and emotional support for people living with cancer. By playing 72 holes and doing over 20 miles of walking in one day, this band of golfing legends helped Macmillan continue to be right there when they’re needed most.

Liam McDonald said: “It’s great to get a group of mates together, play some golf and raise money for Macmillan to help people living with cancer at the same time.

“I want to thank everyone who has supported us so far and helped to make it a success.”
