Tom Phillips paid partnership
Are you thinking of giving up smoking but not sure of the most effective way how?
Stress, anxiety and smoking cessation hypnotherapist Tom Phillips is leading new smoking cessation clinics in Birkdale in Southport this September.
There are only 20 places available, as Tom looks to support people with how to change their mindset as well as quitting the habit.
He said: “Why wait for Stoptober?
“Are you ready to quit smoking? Join me for the first of my new Smoking Cessation Clinics in Birkdale on Sunday, 27th September 2026.
“I’ll explain why trying to break “the habit” is so hard without changing the mindset that goes with the habit.
“A craving lasts 90 seconds. Not an hour. Not the whole day.
“That’s the bit most people don’t know and it’s exactly why the right thing to do in those 90 seconds matters so much.
“We cover it properly in the workshop: a practical toolkit for the moment a craving actually hits, not vague willpower advice.
“One small thing I got to hand someone this week made my day.
“You didn’t consciously choose to become a smoker. Not really.
“What you can see, the behaviour, the cigarette in hand, is maybe 20% of what’s actually going on.
“Underneath it sits beliefs, values, identity: the part of you that decided, somewhere along the way, ‘this is who I am.’ That’s the 80% you can’t see. And it’s the part that actually needs to shift.
“This is one of the models I use to work with smokers, not just at the habit, but at what’s underneath it.
“Trying to quit by fighting the behaviour alone is like chipping at the tip of an iceberg and wondering why the whole thing hasn’t moved.
“I’ll go deeper into this model at the Smoking Cessation Clinic — Sunday, 27th September, Birkdale, 20 seats.”
For people who worry that they have ‘less willpower’ than others – Tom has advice for that too.
He said: “I had a moment in a session this week that’s stuck with me.
“A client, mid-40s, successful by any normal measure, told me she’d spent years assuming she just had ‘less willpower’ than everyone else when it came to smoking.
“That’s not remotely how it works. Consider this. A craving and a panic spike run on the exact same nervous system wiring. Same alarm, same 90 seconds, same relief if you just let it pass instead of fighting it.
“It made me think about how much unnecessary shame gets attached to things that are actually just biology doing what it’s built to do. Like giving in to cravings when you try to quit.
“If any of this sounds familiar, message me, I will be happy to talk it through.”
