An intrepid team from Alcedo Care are getting ready to tackle the heights of the highest aqueduct in the world to raise money for the Elsie’s Story charity.
The charity was set up last year in memory of seven-year-old Southport girl Elsie Dot Stancombe, who was among three girls who were killed at The Hart Space last July.
This April sixty brave fundraisers from Alcedo Care, which has an office in Southport, will brave white water rafting and canoeing at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in North Wales, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the waters of the River Dee.
They will begin their mission from the White Water Active in Llangollen on Saturday 26th April 2025.

Alcedo Care Group Events Manager Adam Garvey said: “Following the tragic events of last summer, we chose to fundraise money for Elsie’s Story charity.
“As a company with an HQ in Southport and as parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, it felt right to support this charity established by Elsie’s parents, one of the girls killed in the stabbing attack, aiming to help young people and others in the community.
“We join the nation in sharing our sadness over the tragic events of July 29th 2024 in Southport. “We are supporting the Elsie’s Story charity with our fundraising this year.
“We would really like to get behind Elsie’s parents and show our support. That’s why 60 brave colleagues from across the business, as far north as Carlisle and as far south as Crewe will take on two challenges including open-water canoeing across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the tallest aqueduct in the world!
“Challenge two will be white water rafting down the River Dee in teams of six aboard an inflatable raft.
“We would very much like to support this local charity, in light of the recent events to allow this new charity to really flourish, in memory of a special little girl.
“We would really appreciate any donation however big or small to allow us to reach our fundraising goal.
“Thank you for your donation in advance.”
When they launched Elsie’s Story last year, Jenni and Dave Stancombe said: “We want to continue Elsie’s ‘story’; her positivity, love for others and energy of life.
“The Trust has been established with the principle objective being to make grants to causes in Elsie’s name, the focus of which will be assistance to young people and support for others in the community and across the region.
“This will include community projects, medical care and support for individuals and families, good causes involving fun, and bringing the community together.”
