Sandgrounder Radio has received approval from regular Ofcom to include the Fylde Coast area within the area they are permitted to broadcast to and provide editorial cover.
Sandgrounder Radio, which broadcasts from Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street in Southport, started its life back in 2004. Since then it has aimed to provide an engaging, informative, entertaining and above all local radio service to Southport and the Liverpool City Region are on DAB+ Digital Radio as well as online.
Sandgrounder Radio Commercial and Content Director Andy Hilbert said: “This is an exciting opportunity to further develop the offering of a local, commercial radio station across the North West Coast, taking in the Fylde Coast area.
“Unfortunately Blackpool and the Fylde Coast will lose their Radio Wave brand in September as it becomes the national Greatest Hits Radio.
“Here at Sandgrounder Radio we see an opportunity to extend the local service we provide, from here on the coast to the people and businesses in Blackpool and on the Fylde Coast. “Being local is key and this approval allows us to provide a local radio service right the way along the North West Coast on DAB+ Digital Radio, Online, Via the app and on Smart Speakers. Long may Local radio live!
“Southport has always been our main editorial area. This now enables us to extend that local radio offering further right along the coast.”
