By Andrew Brown Stand Up For Southport

A fundraising appeal to support families left devastated by last week’s tragedy in Southport has now raised over £40,000 – double the original target.

The Southport Hesketh Round Table launched their appeal last week following a knife attack last Monday (29th July 2024) which saw three young girls killed: Bebe King, six; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven; and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine. Several other girls and adults were injured.

The town’s Round Table volunteers are renowned locally for their annual fundraising efforts through beloved events such as the yearly Santa Float, BBC1’s Children In Need Day, and the Mad Dog 10K run.

They have stepped up once again now to support the families affected by this terrible tragedy.

Donations can be made through the Southport Hesketh Round Table GoFundMe page here: https://gofund.me/9e7a67c2.

Marc Foreman from Southport Hesketh Round Table said: “Thanks again to everyone for your help and assistance in supporting the Southport Hesketh Round Table and our GoFundMe page.

“Myself and the guys at the Southport Hesketh Round Table are in awe at reaching our initial target of £20,000.

“So much so, we have increased the target to £100,000 as we understand that the families affected by last Monday’s tragic events will need significantly more to try and recover from what has happened.

“My family and friends are still trying to come to terms with everything that has happened, but being part of the clean-up crew after the riots last week really helped me.

“I can’t describe how, as I’ve done charity work most of my adult life, but this felt different, and the feeling of everyone coming together and clearing up after the embarrassing events of last Tuesday night really was food for my soul. Almost like we were all grieving together, an acceptance and true community spirit. Southport Stronger Together.

“The chaps and myself at the Southport Round Table really want to thank everyone that has donated, supported and shared the link and can assure everyone that ALL of the donations received will go directly to those families and children from last Monday’s atrocity to get the help and support needed to recover.”

As an integral part of this community, Southport Hesketh Round Table members feel the deep impact of this tragedy deeply, knowing many of those involved personally.

Marc said: “The Southport Hesketh Round Table consistently raises thousands of pounds for local charities and community projects. Now, more than ever, your generosity is needed to help heal and rebuild our community.

“The gravity of this atrocity is indescribable as we are still coming to terms with it.

“Our community has been deeply shaken, and as a charity based in this tight-knit community, we all know someone affected by this. Please donate whatever you can so we can try and build back up the lives affected by this horrific incident.

“For further information or to offer additional support, please reach out to us. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have been so profoundly affected.”
