Road closures will be in place in Southport today (Sunday 8th November 2026) as the Remembrance Sunday service takes place.

Here is the latest travel guidance on roads, buses, and trains if you’re travelling to and from Southport:

Remembrance Sunday:

Lord Street (Eastbank Street to Hill Street), Nevill Street, London Street, London Square, Hoghton Street, St George’s Place and Post Office Avenue are closed from 8am until 1pm at the latest. The parade leaves Wesley Street at 10.20am and the service at the War Memorial starts shortly after 10.45am.

Buses:

The 2, X2, 47 and 300 are diverted around Lord Street, Albert Road and the Promenade this morning, and some calls have moved to other stops. Allow extra time and check your stop before you head out. Buses to Preston and Liverpool were on schedule at 7am.

Liverpool trains:

The Northern Line tunnel works have finished and Merseyrail says Southport trains are back to normal, running through to Moorfields and Liverpool Central. No more changing at Sandhills on a Sunday.

Wigan, Manchester and London:

no published disruption found on Northern’s Southport–Wigan–Manchester line. Avanti trains to and from Euston run a reduced, amended service until midday because of works at Euston, so check your London train before you leave.

Roads:

Away from the town centre, the Kew roundabout works carry on from Monday with lane narrowing and delays expected. Allow extra time on the A570 into town during the week.
