Southport Hospital

Southport residents are being asked to sign a petition to reinstate a 24/7 Children’s A&E service in Southport and protect the town’s adult A&E services as a review into NHS emergency care services takes place.

At present, there is no dedicated emergency service for children after midnight, forcing families to travel to Ormskirk or Liverpool for care—often facing journeys of up to 45 minutes.

NHS Emergency Care services in our region are currently under review through the Shaping Care Together programme. To fill in the shaping Care Together survey please follow the link.

Southport MP Patrick Hurley said: “For too many years now, Southport has been without a dedicated children’s A&E service, forcing families out of town at times of stress and worry. After over a decade of a worsening health service, year on year, it’s time now to start the rebuilding of our healthcare system.

“For Southport, that means aligning our emergency service provision with the needs of our residents, both children and adults.

“Sign my petition to expand A&E provision in the town, and ensure we’ve got an NHS fit for the future.”

Since 2020, there has been no local provision for 24-hour children’s A&E not at southport nor at Ormskirk, which has a children’s A&E, but this shuts at midnight. Many constituents have been in touch with the Southport MP about this issue, and the need for an integrated local A&E. The MP believes reinstating these services is crucial to ensure the local population receives the care it needs. The petition also emphasises the need to protect the current adult A&E services at Southport Hospital, which are vital for all our residents.

Residents are encouraged to sign the MP’s petition and engage in the ‘Shaping Care Together’ consultation to ensure Southport’s hospital services reflect the needs of the community.
