Dave Thornley owner of Quicksilver Music in Southport

The famous Quicksilver Music in Southport town centre is welcoming shoppers to its current shop on Market Street before embarking on a move to bigger new premises.

Music lovers will be able to buy all the classic vinyl records they need at 24 Market Street, at the side of Southport Market, before work starts on the new venture in the former Karbon Kopy shop at 1 King Street, on the corner of King Street and Market Street.

The grand opening is set to take place on Saturday, 6th April 2024, in another boost for the growing Southport Market Quarter.

The area has seen an increase in footfall and new businesses since the £1.4million transformation of Southport Market into a new food, drink and events venue in 2021.

Quicksilver Music has been a popular fixture in Southport town centre since it opened on Market Street, opposite the side of Southport Market, in July 2009.

It is well known for its eye-catching Hunter S Thompson mural on the shutters.

Owner Dave Thornley is renowned for his extensive vinyl record collection, his brilliant Instagram videos, and his busy Record Store Day events – which often sees people queueing from as early as 4am.

He said: ““It’s the end of an era today folks!

“After nearly 15 years in this little shop, we are closing the doors and will be moving a few doors down to bigger premises from 6th April 2024

“Thanks for all your support, and to everyone who has paid us a visit and spent your hard earned cash over the years.

“Now let’s get excited about what’s to come!

“We are here today until 4pm folks!”
