Gardening volunteers at Queenscourt Hospice in Southport have been presented with the North West Best Newcomer Award at the North West Britain in Bloom Awards.

Queenscourt was represented by two gardening volunteers, Frank Owen and Shelley Lewis Lavender along with hospice Health, Safety & Estates Manager Neil Woods at the Area Awards Ceremony.

A hospice spokesperson said: “It was the first time that Queenscourt has entered the event and we were delighted to be awarded North West Best Newcomer and receive a Level 5 – Outstanding Grade in the Hospice category.

“This incredibly well-deserved recognition has been made possible by our small, but highly dedicated, team of volunteers who work extremely hard so that Queenscourt’s grounds always look their best.

“Their dedication and hard work ensures that our grounds are a pleasant and calming place for our patients, staff and visitors.

“Those who attended our popular Open Garden event in June saw first-hand the team’s impressive results.

“The Award is also thanks to the assistance of groups of volunteers from local businesses such as JA Jones and Sons and Rathbones Group plc, together with donations of plants and planters from numerous companies and organisations around the region.

“A huge congratulations to everyone involved!”
