Playtown in Southport is back open!
The play centre at Ocean Plaza has been closed since the coronavirus outbreak struck the UK in March.
But while other businesses have been allowed to reopen during the past few weeks, play centres have been among the last to be allowed to welcome back customers – until now.
Over the past few days, owners Louie and Tanya Gaffney have been putting new safety and social distancing measures in place as well as carrying out a deep clean of the premises.
During the pandemic, they opened the kitchens at Playtown so they could cook and deliver over 4,000 meals to elderly and vulnerable people across Southport.

Louie and Tanya said: “There is no payment option as yet so please pay upon arrival. We will be uploading a video of all new restrictions if you could all view before arrival.
“Please please ensure you attend any booked slots as we are very limited on table space and capacity. Do not book unless you are 100% going to attend.”
These are our current restrictions Playtown has to adhere to by law:
* 90 minutes play sessions with 30 minutes closure for full sanitise.
* face masks should be worn by anyone over 11 entering the building / leaving for toilet etc but not required whilst being sat at your table.
* limited to 40% capacity and have socially distanced tables accordingly.
* if you or any family member have any Covid-19 symptoms you must not attend Playtown and adhere to Government guidelines.
* hand sanitisers throughout the centre so please make sure you wash your hands, and sanitise regularly.
* please make sure you socially distance from others
* new food collection point. You will be given a buzzer and when your food is ready you can collect from servery. The food will be served in disposable containers to avoid any contamination.
* new one way system in place on the floor so please follow arrows.
* new commercial grade fogging system which will be used daily to ensure maximum sanitation.
Owners Louie and Tanya Gaffney said: “Believe us when we say that us and the team are so overwhelmed and excited to see you all again!”
During the coronavirus lockdown, despite worries over their own business, owners Louie and Tanya Gaffney decided they needed to do something to help as many other people as they could.
As lockdown came and panic set in – not least with the toilet paper panic buying stampede – they initially sourced toilet rolls and hand sanitisers to help residents who had lost out. They then turned to those not able to leave their homes who were worried about being able to source food.
So along with volunteers, they reopened the kitchens at Playtown and began cooking hot meals for people in need in the town.
Four months later, on Saturday, July 11, saw their last delivery to the families they have been helping.
During that time they have provided over 4,000 freshly cooked meals, over 4,000 bags of crisps and over 8,000 chocolate bars or packs of biscuits.
