The new Southport Lifeboat building under construction

Progress on the brand new Southport Lifeboat Station is continuing well during the second lockdown.

The charity is looking to move out of its current boathouse, next to Southport Pleasureland, and into its new premises at the start of 2021.

The £1.4million has been made possible thanks to generous donations from members of the public.

A Southport Lifeboat spokesman said: “Despite England’s new lockdown restrictions, progress on our new boathouse continues with the hope of calling the building our new home in the New Year.

“Some of our volunteers recently visited the new site to finalise details for where our lifesaving equipment will be stored and took the opportunity to take some pictures to share with our supporters.

“A very-much needed building is turning from a vision into a reality for our crew, who have spent decades fundraising and planning this mammoth task.

“We can’t wait to welcome all our supporters once safe.”

It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.

Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI.

There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining LifeboatLotto or online donations.
