Max Wright, 11, a pupil at St Philips School in Southport, has donated £50 to children in need over October half term

Marcus Rashford MBE has thanked a kind-hearted schoolboy from Southport who has donated his birthday money to help provide food for children in need over October Half term.

The Manchester United and England striker thanked 11-year-old Max Wright, a pupil at St Philip’s School in Southport, for his amazing generosity.

Max had heard about La Tabella restaurant in Churchtown in Southport providing free meals for children in the Southport area, and decided he wanted to do what he could to help out.

La Tabella owners Rob and Liza Smallman said: “This is the wonderful 11 year old Max Wright from St Philips School. Having heard about our free meals for children this half term Max came into La Tabella this morning and donated £50 of his birthday money to help feed local children.

“We think Max is amazing and should be so proud of himself.”

La Tabella Tweeted Max’s generosity on Twitter, which was spotted by Marcus Rashford, who Tweeted: “Thank you big man.”

They have already been busy cooking and delivering meals in the Southport area.

They said: “We decided to offer the free meals for children as we are obviously aware of all the work Marcus Rashford and many others are doing and we wanted to do something to help our local community.

“We are offering free pasta dishes which are freshly cooked and full of healthy ingredients which can be warmed up at home to any children who need them during the October half term holiday.

“We would like anyone to either message or call us so we can sort their meals for them.

“Also we are encouraging people to nominate anyone they feel would appreciate the meals but may be too shy to come forward themselves.

“Although things are really hard for the hospitality industry at the moment and we are struggling like never before we felt we still needed to put it into perspective and we couldn’t sit back and let children in our local area go hungry.

“The whole team at Tabella are behind this 100% and we all hope we can make a little difference to the lives of our neighbours.”
