Nearly £2,000 has been raised through a courageous 24 hour run around the Marine Lake in Southport.

The Lakeside Runners completed their annual challenge – their 9th – over Saturday and Sunday (21st and 22nd October 2023).

A total of 90 runners took part, completing over 1,000 miles along the way.

So far they have smashed their £1,000 target, raising £1,974, for the Revitalise Sandpipers Centre next to the Marine Lake in Southport.

The centre provides vital respite holidays for people with disabilities and their carers.

Nicky Cooper from Lakeside Runners said:

“Wow, what an amazing and successful 24-hour event!

“Congratulations to all 90 participants. We covered 345 laps with approximately 1,069 miles or 1,725 kilometres.

“I had such a wonderful time meeting, chatting, laughing, and even shedding some tears together with you all!

“It’s important to recognise the individuals who contributed to the success of the event.

“I would like to say a big shout out to Samantha Gaden for supporting me with the planning, Alison Wightman for creating the amazing medals, Helen Green for leading the fantastic warm-up, and Lorraine Ousey for providing signage.

“Thank you everyone who baked and brought along the amazing food – Lindsey Black the cake, Kasha Novecka wow the brownies, Annie Mcc your cookies mmmmmm, anyone else I’ve missed thank you.

“It’s also worth mentioning the Revitalise team, headed by Emma Dorrity and Leslie Sparkes for welcoming us into their centre and taking care of us with warmth and refreshments.

“Spending time with the residents and hearing their stories made it much more special.

“The Revitalise Sandpipers Centre is an amazing place and you should be very proud of the fantastic work you and the team do there to ensure the guests have a great stay.

“I would also like to say a special thank you to everyone who attended the event. Without you, it wouldn’t have been possible.

“Currently, we have reached a donation total of just over £1,730, and with an additional £240 from the buckets we sit at £1,974, it’s exciting to see the total potentially surpassing £2,000.

“To achieve this, feel free to share the donation link and encourage others to contribute.

“Once again, congratulations and thank you all for joining in another successful 24 hour relay event.

“Roll on our 2024 event which will be the 10 year anniversary!”
