Singer Kelly Bond

People can enjoy a whole host of entertainment in Southport town centre this Saturday (19th November) as the Festive Fun Day takes place.

The free event is organised by Southport BID and The Atkinson will see visitors able to enjoy festive favourites, Christmas carols, dance performances and more around the newly-installed, illuminated Christmas tree in the Town Hall Gardens and around The Bandstand on Lord Street.

This Saturday also sees the arrival of the Christmas Grotto at Wayfarers Arcades and the new Christmas Carriage Rides through the town centre, with booking available on the Southport BID website

Families can also have a go at the fun Gingerbread Trail or the new Illustrate Illuminate Trail.

Local singer Kelly Bond will also be singing everyone’s favourite Christmas songs at The Bandstand between 1.30pm and 3.30pm , where she will be joined by Express Performing Arts Academy, Central Dance Studios and BabyBallet.

Then, between 4pm and 5pm, the Town Hall Gardens will see people coming together around Southport’s glittering Christmas tree for traditional carols and classic hits. The event will be hosted by Claire Simmo and Sandgrounder Radio featuring performances from The Atkinson Wellbeing Choir, All Souls Dramatic Club and SONG (Southport Operatic New Generation).

Kelly Bond said: “I have sung Christmas songs in various countries around the world – as far as Melbourne in Australia. But nothing beats being in my home town with family friends and the lovely locals that Southport hosts.

“Being invited by Southport BID to sing at such a wonderful event truly is an honour and I’m so excited to share a stage with some incredible local performers.

“The beauty of Southport to me is its community spirit and warmth. Across the variety of functions and charity events I’ve been part of this year it alway blows me away how special Southport is to so many.”

Many people locally will recognise Kelly for her performances at venues including The Bold Hotel, Birkers, Punch Tarmey’s, No. 4 and others.

This Saturday will be a great chance to see her sing some of her favourite festive classics.

Kelly said: “I’ll be at the Bandstand from 1.30pm alongside some incredible young dancers from Central Studio, Extreme Dance and the beautiful ballerinas from BabyBallet.

“I’m due to sing the ever faithful Christmas singalongs but I’m certain that our host for the day, Sandgrounder Radio presenter Claire Simmo, won’t show much resistance if I ask her to relive our S Club 7 duet we bust out at Southport Flower show earlier this year!

“I really hope families come out in their masses to come sing and dance with us – it’s getting colder so we need to spread some Christmas cheer to warm us up!”

The scene will look beautiful with Southport BID’s 18 metre-high, illuminated Christmas tree having been installed in the Town Hall Gardens earlier this week.

Southport BID’s illuminated Christmas decorations throughout the town have also been installed and switched on this week.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “We would love to welcome people to come and celebrate the start of this year’s Christmas shopping season in Southport on Saturday 19th November with lots of superb festive entertainment planned to take place throughout the day.

“There will be a magical feeling in Southport town centre with performances, songs and carols at the Bandstand and in the Town Hall during the afternoon.

“Southport BID also has many more Christamas themed attractions taking place in the town during November and December, such as our Gingerbread Family Trail, and our Illustrate Illuminate Trail which will be lots of fun for families and a great way of discovering what our town has to offer.”
