The former Conservative Club / Central Club in Southport town centre could be converted into luxury apartments.
Siri & Jays Limited has submitted a planning application to Sefton Council to create seven self-contained residential flats at the club, at 20-22 Bath Street.
Their application says: “The proposed works comprise a change of use from a former snooker club and bar to 7 No self-contained residential luxury flats in the Promenade Conservation Area.
“The application site is situated in an area designated as Southport Resort Area, Southport Central Area and a Regeneration Site on the Council’s Adopted Unitary Development Plan.
“The application property is a well-proportioned, semi-detached 3 Storey Building on the South Western Side of Bath Street.
“The proposed works are within an existing redundant building and by using an existing building rather than using previously undeveloped land to meet housing requirements this is the most sustainable long term use for the building.
“The proposal will increase the accommodation for young professionals and retired persons looking for a home in the local area.
“The proposal is sited within a residential area within the town centre which means the occupants would move into an existing community.
“The development will lose two off road parking spaces. Being within a highly sustainable location within a town centre and strong connections to local amenity and travel links the proposal will be a car free development.
“Overall, the proposal is respectful of the site’s conservation context and is intended to preserve the established qualities that define Southport Promenade’s architectural and historic significance.
“The historic use of the site as a Former Snooker Club now empty will not present a loss of Visitor Accommodation nor have a negative impact on surrounding properties.
“The proposed building change of use of a redundant empty snooker club property to Luxury Self Contained Flats including existing facade improvements can be seen as a positive regeneration and contribution towards preserving the character and appearance of the Conservation Area, as well as the overall street scene in general.
“The proposed design looks to increase the accommodation available in the area and utilises an existing unused commercial unit to do so.”
