Another five people have died with Covid-19 at Southport Hospital and Ormskirk Hospital, bringing the total number to 78 since the outbreak began. 

One person died Friday and four people on Saturday according to figures released today.

The total does not include the number of those who died with coronavirus in care homes or elsewhere in our community. 

The total number of confirmed cases in Sefton has today risen to 647. 

The UK today announced 449 more coronavirus deaths – the fewest for a fortnight – taking Britain’s total death toll to 16,509.

Hospitals urge people to write to lonely patients to help them recover

Patients were aged between 40 and 101 years old. 15 of the 429 patients (aged between 49 and 92 years old) had no known underlying health condition.  

The Government was today pressed on the shortage of PPE protection for frontline NHS workers following the delayed arrival over a consignment of gowns from Turkey.  

Chancellor Rishi Sunak started tonight’s press conference by addressing ongoing concerns about protective equipment for health workers, saying the UK is not the only country that has been finding it difficult. He said it has been an “international challenge”.

He also updated us on some of the economic policies being implemented, saying 140,000 businesses had applied for the government’s Furlough wage scheme on its launch day today – with a million employees between them.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak added: “There is light at the end of the tunnel, but we are not there yet.”
