Stand Up For Southport Blog by Andrew Brown
This is the first image released today showing how the new Southport Train Station Approach will look when building work is completed this summer.
The owners of the Station Approach are working closely with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to create a fresh new look for the site.
Southport Train Station is getting ready to welcome tens of thousands of visitors from around the world ready to enjoy the 154th Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport 12th-19th July 2026.
The work will focus on improving the overall appearance, functionality and experience of the shopping centre, which forms a key pedestrian gateway between Southport Train Station and the busy Chapel Street.
It will be cleaner, fresher, brighter, and more welcoming.
Giving Southport Train Station a fresh new look could not have come at a better time.
It creates the first impression for so many visitors to Southport, and elevating that experience is a welcome investment for the town.

It will also be welcomed by Southport Station Approach tenants such as Marks & Spencer, O2, Timpsons, CeX and Tesco, with hopes now raised of securing a new tenant to occupy the former Poundland unit.
A better look for the Station Approach will be sure to act as a catalyst for Chapel Street as a whole, which has been enjoying a real resurgence in recent months.
Building work is continuing at pace to revitalise the former BHS department store, with new apartments and retail units.
Greggs is currently working on opening a new store in the former H&M fashion store unit, which closed in 2016.

Recent arrivals to the street include Trespass and Toys R Us, while the former Claire’s shop is Under Offer with a new tenant.
For the first time in many years, Chapel Street is nearing full occupancy.
Millions of pounds of further investment is happening nearby too, with building work continuing on the former Southport Visiter offices on Tulketh Street, Crumbs & Grind Co a new arrival on Market Street following the £6.25 million public realm improvements in the Market Quarter, and the Eastbank Enterprise Arcade continuing to develop.
Giving visitors a positive first impression of Southport when they arrive by train is just what our town needs.
With a more impressive looking Southport Train Station, the next step has to be continuing the campaign to restore the Burscough Curves so that Southport can once again welcome rail passengers coming in from Preston and Ormskirk and elsewhere in Lancashire.
