Big Help Group is proud to today announce the acquisition of Southport FC through the purchase of Ian Kyle’s shares.

Big Help Group has been associated with Southport FC for some months already as stadium sponsor and is delighted to now be the majority shareholder.

This process has now been ratified by the National League.

A spokesperson said:

“Big Help Group is the profit-making arm of the business and not connected to our other charitable endeavours.

“We hope fans will be as excited about our purchase as we are.

“Big Help Group has been welcomed so passionately and enthusiastically by Sandgrounders since our stadium sponsorship started and we simply could not pass up the opportunity to take a majority share when it became clear Ian was ready to move on.

“We are passionate, committed people and will only ever want and demand the best for Southport FC.

“Our initial plans include immediate investment into the stadium and training facilities and giving Jim Bentley the funds that he needs to improve our playing squad and capitalise on our outstanding start under his stewardship.

“We are going to radically improve our hospitality offer at the ground and want to see the stadium open regularly and used as a community resource.

“We will be utilising all our existing skills and talents to ensure that the stadium is being used every day of the week, whether that be for one of our Food Clubs, wellbeing activities, or another of our award-winning services.

“We know that this is big news for supporters and has come somewhat out of the blue, so we look forward to hosting the first of a regular series of fan forums where Chairman Peter Mitchell will be on hand to answer any questions that Southport’s loyal fanbase may have.”

Big Help Group Executive Chair, and now new Southport FC Chairman, Peter Mitchell said:

“It is one of the great honours of my life to have become Chairman of Southport FC today, I’ve been to every game this season at the Big Help Stadium and have felt the passion and commitment of the fans first hand.

“This is a special place and to have been entrusted as the custodian of this club is a great responsibility and hugely exciting for me and my organisation.

“I want to pay tribute to Ian and his family whose tenure at the club has been so wholehearted and committed, he has been an absolute pleasure to deal with and he leaves with my and the clubs very best wishes for the future.

“Jim Bentley and his team have my 100% backing on the pitch, he has done a remarkable job in improving our fortunes after a difficult start to the season.

“I look forward to an open engaging relationship with our brilliant fans, we may not get everything right but I can promise you my team and I will work as hard as possible to fulfil the potential of this wonderful football club.

“I look forward to hopefully meeting you all at our first fans forum”.
