Crowds of visitors enjoyed a festive family day out at the Birkdale Christmas Fayre on Sunday (1st December 2024).

The popular annual event, organised by Birkdale Civic Society, took place between midday and 6pm with lots of entertainment to enjoy throughout the day.

A brand-new was installed on Alma Road, next to the village Christmas Tree, as it hosted a full schedule of live performances.

Shoppers browsed in local shops and also found gifts at the Christmas Market on Weld Parade.

People had a great time on the fairground rides dotted throughout the Village.

Father Christmas and Squirrel the Shetland Pony walked around chatting with families.

The Southport Hookers unveiled their new crochet Father Christmas, sat on a bench outside Busy Bodies, as well as a crochet Snowman and Snowdog inside the red telephone box.

There was lots of festive food and drink with delicious treats, mulled wine, mince pies, and much more from stall holders and village traders.

Families gathered for the Grand Finale at 5pm, gathering around for the Christmas Tree Light Switch On.

Speaking in the Stand Up For Southport Facebook group, Nicola Ivanovic said: “Well done Birkdale Civic Society, incredible day.”

Carole Quayle said: “Brilliant afternoon. Well done everyone concerned.”

Denise Johnson said: “Lovely day well done Birkdale.”

Tracey Evans said: “It was fab, the first time for me but will be back next year, thank you guys.”

Pauline Dillon said: “The children singing on the stage were brilliant, seeing that makes you feel it’s truly Christmas.

“Well done to the children and their teachers. I loved it.”

This year’s tree stands over 20 feet tall, generously sponsored by Natalie Silcock and her family, with the tree supplied by Rainford Christmas Trees.

This year’s Fayre would not be possible without the support of Fletchers Solicitors, the headline sponsor, and One Media Solutions, which designed and produced marketing materials.
