Steam engine enthusiasts will be delighted to hear that West Lancashire Light Railway is making its comeback this weekend!
The attraction is a short two-foot gauge passenger-carrying railway.
It runs for about a quarter of a mile around a fishing lake, originally a clay-pit, on Station Road in the village of Hesketh Bank, in West Lancashire.
From small beginnings in the 1960s, it has grown to include a number of historic steam locomotives, which have been restored on site. The railway also has many examples of small industrial diesels that were once commonplace in Lancashire and surrounding areas.
The railway is a registered charity operated entirely by volunteers, and funded by fare income, donations and membership fees.
A West Lancashire Light Railway said: “At last some great news, steam returns to Hesketh Bank”
“After six months of Covid shutdown we are finally ready to return to steam, with passenger services from Sunday 23rd August.
“Our Covid Recovery Plan is in place, staff training has been completed, so you can be assured that we are as safe as possible.
“As a visitor, you will notice some changes to how we operate but we are sure you will find the same friendly railway as before.
“Our online Return to Steam discounted Family Ticket is still available until the end of August. Valid for any normal operating day or gala (not including Santa Trains)

“We can’t wait to see you.
“You can help support the West Lancashire Light Railway Trust by purchasing a Return to Steam discounted family ticket, becoming a member or with a kind donation.”
The attraction offers a family-friendly venue for visitors interested in live steam railways and the preservation of our industrial heritage.
Many visitors are locals who come regularly to ride trains, whilst for special events people come from near and far to see the latest attractions. These include visiting engines, freight trains, traction engines, vintage cars and buses, and live steam model railways.
