Paul Gascoigne

England legend Paul Gascoigne will reveal some amazing stories about some of the greatest moments in football when he makes a special visit to Southport this September.

The midfielder, who played for teams including Spurs, Newcastle, Lazio, Everton and Rangers, will star at ‘An Evening With Gazza’, at the Grand in Southport on Friday, 29th September 2023.

Money will be raised on the evening for the NHS and ICUsteps, the intensive care patient support charity.

The 56-year-old soon became a national treasure during England’s run to the World Cup semi-final in 1990 in Italy and the semi-final in Euro ‘96 in England, also winning the FA Cup with Tottenham Hotspur in 1991 and representing the England national team for 10 years between 1988 and 1998.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says it was one of the biggest regrets of his career when Gazza rejected the chance to sign for Manchester United in 1988 and chose Spurs instead.

Tickets are available here: An evening with Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne – The Grand or email: events@thegrand.co.uk or call: 01704 334533.

Limited VIP packages are still available.

Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group Chairman Andrew Mikhail said: “I was a massive Gazza fan growing up!

“I don’t think there are many football fans my age who weren’t huge fans of his.

“He’s the last real world superstar that England have had.

“During the 1990 World Cup he was just amazing – he was everyone’s hero.

“I can’t believe we have got him coming to Southport so people can have a chance to see him and hear all his stories about his life and about his career.

“I am really excited about his visit.”

There are so many iconic Paul Gascoigne moments, it is hard to choose between them.

Andrew Mikhail has two he won’t forget.

He said: “My favourite Paul Gascoigne moment was when he scored his incredible goal for England against Scotland during Euro ‘96 at Wembley, and then ran off to the side of the pitch to do the famous dentist’s chair celebration.

“My other memory was when I was a young lad, that famous moment when he was booked playing against Germany in the World Cup semi-final, and he looked across to Bobby Robson.

“He had tears in his eyes because he realised the booking meant he wouldn’t be able to play in the World Cup Final.

“It was devastating for him, and for every England fan watching it. He had been such a massive reason why England reached that semi-final in the first place, he drove that team forward with his genius.

“It was such an emotional moment. It still touches me now.

“It’s probably not Paul’s greatest memory of his career, but it’s certainly one I’ll never forget.

“We’ve had a fantastic reaction from people since we announced Gazza is coming to The Grand.

“Tickets and packages have been really popular. It’s a really unique chance to see one of the greats of world football and to hear about his life and things he has achieved.

“The thing about Paul Gascoigne is that lots of people can relate to him..

“He has had his demons, he has had his struggles. He has battled alcoholism, and he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“He will be talking about lots of things during his visit to Southport, some of which may be very hard for him personally to talk about.

“It’s going to be a fascinating evening.”

Paul Gascoigne will be at The Grand on Lord Street on Friday, September 29th, 2023 from 7pm until late.

One of the greatest English players of all time, Paul Gascoigne scored 10 goals in 57 England appearances.

Guests will be able to enjoy a delicious three-course meal while being enthralled by Gazza’s captivating tales and insights from his illustrious career.

The evening will also feature special performances from talented entertainers Katie George and Jack Bennett, adding an extra touch of variety to the event.
